Ever since Kareena announced her pregnancy, she has become social media’s most favourite child. Never has maternity style and fitness been so scrutinized as much as it was done during her pregnancy. In fact this must have been the most awaited pregnancy of Bollywood ever. While we are very sure that Kareena is going to turn heads with her new age parenting style tips, here are few hacks for women out there who have or are going to deliver a baby soon.

Trim your baby’s nails twenty minutes after he or she sleeps

Trimming baby’s nails is something that most new moms dread. The best time to cut your baby’s nails is twenty minutes after they have fallen asleep. This is the time when your baby will be in a deep sleep, and you will be able to trim their nails without any struggle. But ensure you get the best nail chipper available.

Use pacifiers as a tool to feed medicines

The pacifiers that you are given at the hospital have hollow opening, which is perfect for putting the medicine dropper in. It may be a long process, but your stubborn baby will be soothed while also being duped into feeling better. You can also get such pacifiers in some baby shops.

Sleep when your baby sleeps

As obvious as it may sound, it is something most moms don’t follow. Either they are busy doing other work or they are staying up and worrying. If you want to sleep during your first year, this is the only rule that can work and can keep you sane.

Learn to swaddle the right way

Swaddling is very important for new borns. It is better to learn it before hand. This is how you can do it. Place a square swaddle blanket in your baby’s crib like a diamond. Fold down the top corner towards the middle to make a flat edge. Lay your baby down on the blanket with the flat edge on the back of their neck. Put your baby’s arms flat against their body and bring one side corner across their body and tuck it underneath them, leaving an arm free. Fold the bottom corner up and over the shoulder of the remaining free arm. Fold the remaining side corner over their flat arm and across the body, tucking it under their body.

Stroke your baby’s face with tissue to put him to sleep

This works well for many babies. Gently stroke your baby’s face with a tissue to get them to sleep or massage their cheeks. This can get them to sleep in less than 60 seconds. Don’t sleep train your baby in a quiet room. If you do so, chances are they will be disturbed more when they grow up. They will get affected by every noise around. Use a white noise app, or try a ceiling or standing fan pointed away from them just to make some noise. Darkening curtains are also a terrific help for putting a baby to sleep and keeping them asleep.

Use coconut oil, the best moisturizer for infants

If you read the label of most baby products, it would say, “if swallowed get medical help.” And most babies stick their hands in their mouth which can actually harm their digestive tract. So, it is better to use coconut oil. Not only are they edible, they work well. Whip out the coconut oil and it not only clears up dry skin but also makes the baby smell fresh.

Get dad involved

There is nothing wrong in handing the baby over to the dad and letting him figure things out. It is easier for your husband to help you through pregnancy, but he will be at a loss initially when the baby is born. Let him be. Many first-time dads hesitate to get involved for fear of doing something wrong and incurring the wrath of mom. “Moms need to allow their husbands to make mistakes without criticizing them,” says Armin Brott, author of The New Father: A Dad’s Guide to the First Year. This is not only good for your child’s mental growth, it is an easier way to deal with the increased work load in the first few weeks after child birth.

Prewarm your baby’s blanket before putting her into the bassinet

You would have noticed that your child wakes up immediately after you put her in her bassinet. You pick her and rock, she would sleep again. Various studies say that this is because babies love the warmth. So, you can wrap a blanket around a heating pad and let it warm up her bed while you feed. After she has fallen asleep, you can remove the heating pad and slip the baby between the folds of the warm blanket. She would snuggle right in.

Use breast shields to deal with latching issues

If you are having latch-on issues while breastfeeding your baby, you can use breast shields to help the process. You can use them for even a month till your baby would latch onto your nipple without shields. This can help you continue nursing your baby even if he or she has latching issues.
